- The issue limit of 35,000 individual 1990 one ounce Kookaburra near tree trunk $5 silver proof's was not reached with the mintage declared at 21,671 coins, each housed encapsulated on a see-both-sides plastic enclosed in a protective black leatherette wallet and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity. Two types of protective wallet were used, one with a flap fastened by a press stud while on the other, the flap is secured with velcro pads. The wallets can be distinguished from those used for issues in later years by the words 'FIRST PROOF ISSUE' embossed on the front
