- The reverse design was created by Darryl Bellotti, an indigenous artist of Yamatji and Nyoongar descent. The design was inspired by his boyhood memories of a hunting trip in north-western Australia. The turtle is surrounded by patterns of dots, symbolising the hunter's journey, and circles, representing the places where they stopped.
- Each coin is housed in an illustrated presentation pack which includes Darryl Bellotti's signature and his evocative description of hunting in the Australian bush. The pack incorporates a Certificate of Authenticity. The coins were struck on a mint-to-order basis with orders accepted until the announcement of the 2010 dolphin coin when production ended and the final mintage of 1,859 was announced.
