Commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Dirk Hartog's first landing in Australia in 1616 The Perth Mint has struck a 99.9% pure silver one ounce one dollar high relief proof with an extremely limited worldwide mintage of only 3000 being released.
The reverse depicts a representation of the view through a telescope of Dirk Hartog's ship the Eendracht sailing across the ocean aside a compass rose and October 1616 in exergue. The coins high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
