On 20th November 2017, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary. In keeping with tradition, the Royal Australian Mint have marked this significant milestone with the release of a striking 50 cent fine silver proof coin.
The reverse design incorporates the royal couple's monogram 'EP' with wreaths of myrtle representing their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each wreath is pinned by the heraldic symbol of the Princes in the direct line of succession: The Prince of Wales - Charles, The Duke of Cambridge - Prince William and Prince George of Cambridge. The remaining royal family are represented by myrtle blossoms, an ancient symbol of marriage and love. Sprays of wattle, each with seven blossoms, represent the royal couple's seven decades of marriage.
