The Story

The 2002 Masterpieces in Silver set issued by the Royal Australian Mint commemorates four of the European vessels that were among the first to sail the seas around Australia many centuries ago.

The coins in each collection were housed, encapsulated within an antique brown leatherette, hinged-lid presentation case. A replica of the Naval Captain's Sash Badge belonging to Matthew Flinders and a 20-page information booklet containing a numbered certificate of authenticity accompany each set.

The reverse designs of the 4 coins, depict:

  • Duyfken,
  • HM Bark Endeavour,
  • HMS Sirius and
  • HMS Investigator.
