The Story
The Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign was issued in June 1999 to celebrate the origins of the Perth Mint. The $100 Bi-Metal Proof honours the historic role of the sovereign and the importance of silver in the Mint's heritage as a major Australian gold and silver refiner since 1899.
The design on the reverse of the centerpiece of the coin is Benedetto Pistrucci's St George Slaying the Dragon - the same design that was used on all Perth Mint sovereigns also includes 'P100' in exergue.
