The Story

This coin was struck to commemorate the 150th Anniverary of the birth of one of Australia's favourite bush poets, Andrew 'Banjo' Paterson. The coin pays homage to Banjo Paterson's love of the Australian bush and its characters.

The coin's reverse depicts a scene from the popular anthem Waltzing Matilda, featuring a swagman in colour. A photographic portrait of Banjo Paterson is fringed by Banksia flowers, his signature and the inscription A.B. ''BANJO'' PATERSON 1864 - 1941. The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark also appears in the design.

Just 1882 coloured proofs were struck, each housed encapsulated, in a black acrylic presentation case with a timber swivel-lid, accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected by a themed cardboard shipper.
