$100 2018 - 1812 A New Map of the World Gold Proof Domed Coin

In the 18th century Captain James Cook’s famous voyages stirred the imagination of generations unveiling the mysteries of the Southern Hemisphere for scientists cartographers and explorers. The excitement and drama of this era of discovery is embodied in this exclusive domed coin based on rare and historic maps of the period which were both accurate and beautiful.

Following on from the Celestial Domed series Southern and Northern Skies the Royal Australian Mint has struck this domed shape $100 99.99% pure gold coin with a small mintage of just 750 pieces.

Capturing the excitement of an age of discovery the reverse features depictions of the Eastern  Hemisphere based on an historic and rare map that shows Captain Cook’s tracks and his discoveries.
